As I face the “giants” in my life,
I’m often overcome by a bigger enemy:
discouragement. Can you relate?
David’s brother didn’t think he could do it,
King Saul didn’t think he could do it,
Goliath himself didn’t think David could defeat him.
But David believed. He knew it wasn’t really him
fighting that battle -it was the Lord’s battle
and he would surely have the victory!
He said “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:37)
Then he faced the giant and said “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45) “All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord ’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:47)
With a slingshot David defeated Goliath!
With faith and courage David defeated that “giant.”
Friend, if you feel discouraged because of any giant you’re facing,
take heart! God is with you in this battle. It is his battle!
I love the song Confidence by Sanctus Real
because it is the prayer of my heart right now:
“Give me a heart like David,
Lord be my defense,
so I can face my giants
